project hail mary (film)
is an upcoming american science fiction adventure film directed and produced by phil lord and christopher miller, with a screenplay by drew goddard. the film is based on the 2021 novel by andy weir. the cast includes ryan gosling, who also serves as a producer, along with sandra huller, lionel boyce, ken leung, and milana vayntrub.
early full length press screenings received largely positive reactions. ryland grace wakes up alone on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of who he is or why he is there. as he pieces things together, he realizes he is the sole survivor of a mission sent to the tau ceti system to save earth from extinction. to complete the mission, grace must rely on his scientific expertise, problem solving ability, and resilience. eventually, he discovers he is not entirely alone. he forms an unlikely alliance with an alien he names rocky, who is trying to save his own planet from the same threat.
